WRIIL, or Work Related Illness and Injury Leave, is a provision under Rule 44 of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, that provides special leave benefits to government employees who suffer illness or injury due to work-related causes.
Purpose of WRIIL:
To provide leave and financial support to employees who are incapacitated due to work-related accidents or illnesses.
Authority to approve WRIIL:
The authority competent to grant leave in normal course.
Eligibility for WRIIL:
Available to central government employees, including those in central armed police forces and other specified categories.
Hospitalization:
Full pay and allowances are granted during hospitalization due to WRIIL.
Post-Hospitalization:
- The leave provisions vary based on the employee's category (e.g., civilian, CAPF personnel).For most civilian employees, full pay and allowances are provided for 6 months after hospitalization, followed by half pay for 12 months, which can be commuted to full pay with HPL debit.
- For CAPF officers, full pay is provided for the first 6 months, then full pay for an additional 24 months. For CAPF personnel below officer rank, full pay and allowances are provided with no limit on the leave duration.
Compensation:
If the employee is eligible for compensation under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923, the WRIIL leave salary is reduced by the compensation amount.
No earning of EL and HPL during WRIIL:
No Earned Leave or Half Pay Leave shall be credited during the period that employee is on WRIIL.
Medical Authority:
The employee will be required to obtain a certificate from a specified medical authority regarding their disability.
Leave Rules:
The WRIIL leave is regulated under Rule 44 of the CCS (Leave) Rules, 1972, and may involve adjustments to the employee's leave account.
